Residents of a Blairgowrie care home could soon be pulling pints to watch a Hollywood blockbuster after plans were unveiled to open a bar and cinema in their facility.
Beech Manor Care Home hope to make renovations that will allow their residents to watch sport and socialise over a drink of their choosing, with the hope that the residents will try their luck with bartending to boost morale.
A lounge will also be converted into a cinema room with a projector and seating installed to allow movie nights, as well as simulated experiences that will encourage residents to reminisce.
Madeana Lang, the new manager at Beech Manor Care Home, said she hopes the new ideas will provide exciting opportunities to boost wellbeing and increase the residents’ level of activity within the 46-bed facility.
Madeana said: “Some of the residents love to head out to the pub and watch the football but they are not always able.
“With a new bar area within the home, we can bring that experience to them allowing better socialising among residents, while a cinema can bring back old memories to stimulate the brain and a more active agenda will improve wellbeing.
“It’s important that our residents receive not only an excellent standard of care but are also offered experiences that fulfil them, allowing for an excellent quality of life.”
On top of getting a new bar and cinema residents may soon also be able to enjoy garden parties with the local community, school children and stakeholders, with food and drink station.
Other activities made available to the residents include air hockey, snooker, dominoes, and arts and crafts with the local school children.
Louise Barnett, managing director of Renaissance Care who run the nursing home, said: “Madeana is a welcomed addition to our ever-expanding team and her ambitious plans for Beech Manor Care Home truly compliment Renaissance Care’s plans for growth.”
In 2017 Renaissance Care secured £4.5 million of funding from Barclays to support its long-term growth plans.
Speaking at the time, Robert Kilgour, CEO of Dow Investments who own Renaissance Care, said: “This funding will allow us to continue our dual strategy of investing heavily in improving our existing care home facilities and also providing further training for our hardworking staff to ensure we deliver the best possible care for our vulnerable elderly residents.”
