An 81-year-old woman has died following a two-vehicle crash on the A9 between Dunkeld and Pitlochry.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) had to use cutting equipment to access the female after the accident at the Dowally junction at 1pm on Sunday, May 5.
Police, SFRS and paramedics are all on the scene.
A SFRS spokesperson said: “We were called to a two vehicle collision near Ballinluig on Sunday afternoon. We were made aware at 1pm.
“Firefighters are using hydraulic rescue cutting equipment to get to a casualty within one of the vehicles.
“We can confirm an 81-year-old female has died.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Police Scotland are advising members of the public that there has been a serious road traffic incident on the A9 at its junction with Dowally, southbound and area advised to avoid the area if possible.
“Emergency services are on scene.”
Traffic Scotland have described the situation as a “standstill” and are warning of 45 minute delays.
The northbound carriage way was reopened at 7pm, however police say the southbound carriageway will remain closed until further notice.
