Staff at a Perth cafe have put up a reward for information which could lead to the prosecution of thieves who stole a young worker’s bike.
Joseph Jones, 15, has been working in the newly relaunched South Inch Pavilion Cafe during his exam leave, helping his mother Catherine.
Last Wednesday, CCTV cameras caught two people approaching the bike behind the building before riding off with it.
The cafe’s owner has put up a £100 reward for the bike or for the names of the culprits, in order to have them prosecuted.
Catherine, from Perth, is disappointed to see the bike stolen, but is heartened by the fact that the appeal has been shared more than 750 times on Facebook, hoping this time, “the good guys will win”.
She said: “Joseph has been in helping me while he’s on exam leave. He borrowed his brother’s bike to come in last week.
“My brother is a professional mountain biker and he won a bike in a competition years ago.
“They’ve built it up, put on new wheels on and tweaked it so it’s really unique. It’s a good jump bike.
“It’s incredible to see the support online but it shows that there are horrible people out there who will do what they like.
“These things happen all the time, but hopefully the good guys will win this time.”
The South Inch Pavilion owner Frank Burger-Seed wants to see the bike, a Handsome Dog returned to the Perth schoolboy as quickly as possible, and has put up the reward for tracking it down.
He added: “Joseph is one of our young members of staff. He comes in and helps his mum at The Pavilion.
“He’d come in on his brother’s bike which he’d borrowed, but the loss is as much about the sentimental value. It’s such a shame.
“Unfortunately it was taken, and we’ve put up the reward. The video is to show that it happened and to make people aware that there is CCTV around The Pavilion now, which there wasn’t for years.
“It was stolen on Wednesday in broad daylight. We contacted the police on 101 once we had seen that it was gone.
“We’ve not had anyone come forward yet. Our footage on the computer is much clearer than what’s online, so we’re hoping the police will recognise the two culprits.
“We are offering £100 reward to anyone who can return the bike or identify the thieves so we can get them charged.”
