One of the biggest events in Scotland’s annual Highland games calendar got under way yesterday with hundreds of people braving the rain to travel to Blair Castle in Perthshire.
The Atholl Gathering and Highland Games followed on from the annual Atholl Highlanders Parade on Saturday, with the inspection taken by the retiring Lord Lieutenant of Perthshire, Brigadier Sir Melville Jameson.
Yesterday, competitors took part in events including tug o’ war, solo piping and highland dancing, as well as the traditional heavyweight events, despite the poor weather conditions.
