Fourteen people were hospitalised after a fire broke out in a Perth apartment block during the early house of Friday morning which saw residents jump from their windows to avoid the flames.
Witnesses and family members report seeing children being dropped to the ground during the blaze which began in a ground floor flat in Menzies Court at around 2.30am.
Emergency services rushed to the three storey tenement with fire crews using breathing apparatus and a jet stream hose to fight the flames.
The cause of the fire is still unknown with both police and fire officers saying the incident is under investigation.
Graham Smart, incident commander, said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 2.38am on Friday to reports of a fire within a ground floor flat in a three storey tenement building in Menzies Court in Perth City Centre.
“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames.
“Crews assisted a total of 14 people from the building who were then handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and taken to hospital.
“Crews left the scene at 5.35am after ensuring the area was made safe.”
