Perth and Kinross Council has revealed it has still not received any planning applications to open a new hotel in the Fair City.

Council officers have been trying to attract a major hotel chain to the city for a number of years to boost tourism in the area.

They hope a new hotel would offer 100 to 125 bedrooms.

Officials say they have made progress recently following a networking event in London but are still awaiting a concrete proposal from a hotel company wanting to open in Perth.

A council spokesperson said: “Perth and Kinross Council recently conducted a feasibility study to get an up-to-date picture of what opportunities exist in Perth for potential future development.

“In addition to this, earlier this year the council was invited to take part in an event in London organised by Scottish Development International. The event was designed to help identify possible future investment opportunities for Perth City.

“Two local hotel owners were also at the event and had the opportunity to speak to a number of investors about their businesses.

“While those conversations obviously took place in private, the feedback is that these were positive which reflects well on how the hotel industry perceives the potential of Perth as an area for future growth.

“We are continuing to be proactive in our discussions but these are commercially confidential.”

Earlier this year the council’s head of planning and development, David Littlejohn, said he was actively working towards persuading a big hotel name to come to Perth.
