A woman has died and another taken to hospital after rescue teams were called to reports of two people in the water at a popular beauty spot in Perthshire.
Emergency services rushed to Bracklinn Falls in Callander at around 11.30am after the alarm was raised.
An air ambulance helicopter along with Coastguard and rescue teams landed at nearby Callander golf course, and a search of the area was carried out.
While one of the women was recovered safely, police later confirmed that the other was pronounced dead at the scene.
No further details have been given about the women involved, although it is understood the rescued woman has been taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert for further treatment.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in the Forth Valley region, along with other emergency services, were called to the Bracklinn Falls area of Callander around 11.30am following reports of two women experiencing difficulty in the water.
“Whilst one of the women was safely recovered, the other was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“An investigation has been launched and enquiries are continuing.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman confirmed that a “number of resources” had been sent to assist.
