Sir Ian McKellen led Perthshire Pride’s first ever parade through the sunny streets of the Fair City today as hundreds of people turned out in support of the LGBT+ community.
The Hollywood and LGBT+ rights activist said his Perth appearance was only one of two Pride marches he would be attending this year after also making an appearance at the festival in London.

He described the parade’s route along the River Tay as the “most scenic” he had ever attended and congratulated the Fair City on “finally” having a Pride Parade of their own.
The Lord of the Rings star also took to the stage at Horsecross Plaza, telling the expectant crowd to be proud and be themselves as cheers rang out.

Organisers of Perthshire Pride believe this year’s turnout was so huge that they may have tripled their crowd numbers from last year.
