One of two police officers injured in a serious crash on the M90 last weekend has been allowed home.
The pair was injured after their marked police car left the carriageway and came to rest on a grass verge on the M90 northbound near Kelty on October 6.
They were responding to reports of a drunk driver in Fife at the time.
The officer who has been discharged from hospital was a passenger in the vehicle and suffered back injuries, which were treated at Ninewells.
His colleague, who was at the wheel of the BMW 330, is understood to remain unconscious in hospital.
He was initially rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary before being transferred to the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, where he is being treated for “neurological injuries”.
Chief Superintendent Stewart Carle, head of Road Policing Scotland, thanked the public for their good wishes in a post on Twitter.
He wrote: “Pleased to add an update that the other injured officer was discharged home from Ninewells yesterday afternoon following expert treatment with more to follow.
“The kind thoughts and good wishes from hundreds of people really do help – thanks!”
He had previously revealed that he had visited the driver in hospital.

The incident happened about 1.5 miles north of the Kelty junction on the northbound carriageway of the M90.
The carriageway was closed for nearly 12 hours while the accident was investigated.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent three appliances sent to the scene.
