A case of Covid-19 has resulted in children at a Kirkcaldy nursery being told to self-isolate.

A person linked with Torbain Primary School nursery tested positive for the virus.

Parents were told on Thursday to keep children at home until September 29.

NHS Fife said there was no evidence so far of any transmission within the nursery.

It is the seventh school in the region to be affected by coronavirus since the start of term.

The news came the day after children in the nursery at Lochgelly West Primary School were told to stay at home as a staff member had tested positive.

A statement issued by NHS Fife on Thursday evening said: “NHS Fife can confirm that an individual with links to Torbain Nursery, in Kirkcaldy, has tested positive for Covid-19.

“As a precaution, all children at Torbain nursery are asked not to attend nursery tomorrow and should self-isolate until Tuesday, September, 29, before returning to nursery on Wednesday, September 30.

“There is no evidence of any transmission within the nursery at this stage and the risk to children and staff is low.

“All other pupils in the school are asked to attend as normal.”

A reminder was also issued that anyone with symptoms of the virus – a fever, new and continuous cough, or a loss or change in the sense of taste or smell – should arrange testing using the UK Government Citizens’ Portal or by calling 0800 028 2816.

Parents were also directed to useful information about the virus on NHS Fife’s website and that of Fife Council.
