Businesses which have unused PPE have been urged to donate it to Scottish healthcare facilities to help frontline workers battling the COVID-19 crisis.
The call was made by MedSupplyDriveUK Scotland, a volunteer group of NHS doctors, medical students and allies.
They have asked for businesses to take their PPE straight to local hospitals, GP surgeries, hospices and care homes.
A spokesman said: “The NHS is currently experiencing an unprecedented rise in demand for PPE across the country and risks facing a shortage in supplies as the COVID-19 crisis continues – the consequences of which could be disastrous and cost lives.
“It is now absolutely vital that this need for high quality PPE is met, which is why MSDUK Scotland is making an urgent plea to all organisations, businesses and individuals that may currently have stockpiles of PPE.
“As a small country with great industry, the PPE that NHS frontline workers so desperately need might just be in a warehouse or stockroom round the corner.
“We have the opportunity to equip NHS workers quickly and efficiently if donations are made locally.”
Donations are to be dropped off at the delivery entrances of the nearest healthcare facility.
Those making donations are asked to check their local facility is open before making the journey and to maintain a two-metre physical distance from others at all times.
Examples of industries that may have the required PPE include manufacturing, construction, oil and gas, film and TV production, beauty and wellness and distilleries.
The most sought after PPE includes Alpha Solway 3030V FFP3 and 3M 8833 FFP3 masks.
Also needed are FFP3 respirators (eg. MOLDEX 9000 full face Mask + ABEK1P3R filters, medium), FFP3 masks (conforming to EN149:2001), FFP3 mask fit testing kits, non-latex gloves, goggles, surgical gowns, visors and Tyvek /Hazmat suits.
