The blaze broke out on Ben Blandy, to the east of Tongue in Sutherland, at around 7.30pm on Tuesday. Fire crews are continuing to attempt to contain the blaze, which covers an area of seven kilometres (4.3 miles). A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service described it as an “extensive” wildfire. Officers kept a “watching brief” overnight as attempts continued to keep the blaze away from nearby properties.
