Police have confirmed the body of a man found in the Cairngorms is missing hillwalker James Robertson.
Mr Robertson, known as Jim, 61, was found on Thursday night in Glen Lui, Aberdeenshire, having been missing for more than two months.
His body was recovered from the hillside by mountain rescuers on Friday and police confirmed his identity on Tuesday.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Wilson said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Robertson’s family and friends at this very sad time, and I would like to express my appreciation to them for their support as rescue teams carried out searches.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight the commitment shown by the volunteers from Braemar, Aberdeen and Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Teams as well as the Search and Rescue Dogs Association and air support from the Coastguard.
“Thank you also to the public who provided us with information throughout as we carried out extensive searches for Mr Robertson – your support was invaluable.”
The experience hillwalker, from Cathcart in Glasgow, was believed to have stayed in the Bob Scott Bothy in Glen Lui, about eight miles from Braemar, before going missing.
A major search operation was launched after he was reported missing in March, involving more than 80 volunteers from mountain rescue teams, along with specialist search officers, search and rescue dogs and a coastguard helicopter.
Mountain rescue teams continued to search for Mr Robertson after his family accepted he would not be found alive.
Writing on Facebook, his daughter Lynn Robertson thanked all those who have supported the family and praised the rescue volunteers who worked tirelessly to help find her father.
She said she was “completely heartbroken” at the discovery, and added: “I’d like to ask that our dad is not remembered as ‘a body found in the Cairngorms’ but as a doting father, an adored brother, a loving son and of course a true hill lover.
“A kindred spirit has reached out to our family with these touching words ‘He will be soaring with the Eagles above the mountain tops. What a view he will have.’ Soar high Dad x.”
