Police investigating the shooting of two men in a targeted attack have issued the first description of the suspects.
One man, aged 26, sustained injuries to his head, face and chest while the other victim, aged 27, is being treated for head and face injuries.
The attack, which is being treated as attempted murder, happened on a footpath between Millgate Road and Westwood Crescent in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, at about 2.30pm on Monday.
Police initially said there was no information on the attackers but responses to witness appeals have helped form a description.
Officers are trying to trace two men, one around 5ft 6ins who was wearing a balaclava and a dark dark-coloured jacket, while the second man is about 6ft with short crew-cut hair.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers are appealing for anyone who may have been in the surrounding area and who may have seen these men to get in touch.
“A dedicated incident room telephone number has been set up and anyone with any information or knowledge about the men or the crime can speak to officers on 01355 564018.
“Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can provide information and remain anonymous.”
One of the victims is being treated in Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride and the other is in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow. Both are said to be in a “serious but stable” condition.
Detective Inspector Grant Durie said: “I would like to make it clear from the outset that we believe this was a targeted attack and that those injured were the intended victims.
“Understandably, this incident will be of concern for local people and I would like to reassure them that additional officers will be in the area to provide reassurance.”
