Two 13-year-old boys have been charged following a blaze which caused significant damage to a listed building in Aberdeenshire.
More than 60 firefighters worked through Thursday night and into Friday morning to bring the blaze at the derelict hospital building at Glen O’Dee in Banchory under control.
No-one was injured but “significant damage” was caused, police said.
Officers added that the two 13-year-old boys will be reported to the Youth Justice Management Unit.
Detective Sergeant George Nixon said: “We would like to thank members of the Banchory community for their support and assistance throughout this enquiry.
“While no-one was injured, a significant amount of damage has been caused and the consequences could have been far greater.”
Glen O’Dee was built in 1900 as a sanatorium for patients with tuberculosis and was later converted into a hotel.
It was requisitioned by the army in 1941 and used as a billet and was later assimilated into the NHS.
