Police have started an investigation after a lit firework was pushed through the letterbox of a house in Dumfries and Galloway.
Officers in Annan say the incident happened at a house in Kimmeter Square some time between 9pm and 11pm on Tuesday.
Fire and rescue crews arrived at the house at about 11pm after being called by the householder who discovered the house was full of smoke.
Constable Stewart Hunter, of Police Scotland, said: “This was a completely reckless thing to do and the consequences could have been catastrophic had the firework set fire to the house.
“We have reports of fireworks going off in the Kimmeter area around 10.30pm or 11pm and would ask anyone who has any knowledge of who is responsible for this to get in touch with us through the 101 number.
“Thankfully the firework did not set anything alight and no-one was injured in this incident. We are carrying out door-to-door enquiries into this crime in an effort to find out who was responsible.”
