Windows have been smashed at the Muir of Ord chipper after police were called to the takeaway for a second night.
Angry locals in the Highland community surrounded Jaki’s Fish and Chip Shop on Thursday evening, just hours after Her Majesty’s death was announced, and then again on Friday.
Police had to be called to disperse the crowd on both nights as eggs were thrown at the shopfront.
On Saturday windows on the chipper were seen smashed. Locals had been seen throwing bricks at the shop on Friday, although no damage was caused then.
No regrets from takeaway owner
Feelings are still running strong in Muir of Ord after news of the video spread across the world.
In the footage, a staff member is seen celebrating the death of the Queen while popping a champagne cork and spraying the bottle.
The video immediately sparked outrage in the community and further afield.
The takeaway did reopen for about three hours on Friday. However, bricks were seen thrown at the business during the afternoon while children taunted the staff by singing God Save the Queen.
Owner Jaki Pickett told the Press & Journal on Friday afternoon she had “no regrets” about the video.
However, the Facebook page of the chip shop has now been deleted and windows were seen smashed on Saturday afternoon.
Police were seen driving in the area while the business was open on Friday and employees were seen talking to officers at times.
Now it has been confirmed police had to attend again later that evening as another crowd gathered outside.
A spokesman said: “Shortly after 8.30pm on Friday officers attended at a business in the Seaforth Road area of Muir of Ord following a report a large crowd had gathered in the area.
“Officers attended remained at the scene to ensure the safety of all present and the group subsequently dispersed peacefully.”
Nobody has been arrested or charged by police during either Thursday’s or Friday’s incident.
Muir of Ord outraged for video celebrating Queen’s death
Local resident fear the incident has put their small community in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
One resident said Ms Pickets behaviour was “completely out of order.”
“I disagree completely with all she is doing,” she added.
Another resident said: “I don’t think anyone agrees with what she did. If you look at the rubbish in her window, it has been going on for years now and the village is fed up with her nonsense.”
Councillor Angela MacLean, who represents Muir of Ord, says the incident has sparked real concern in the community.
She said: “It is despicable what she has done. People are really upset about it, not only because she has done this on the death of the Queen but it is also because they don’t want to be associated in any way with her comments.
“They are concerned that as residents of Muir of Ord, because this is all on social media now, the community will be regarded by everyone as being of the same view as her and they are not.
“They are really upset that they will be tarred with the same brush.”
