A brick was thrown through the window of a Syrian family’s house on Thursday, an incident the police have called a hate crime.
Officers from Police Scotland are appealing for information after a window was smashed at a house in Tillicoultry just after midnight on Thursday, at an address on Chapel Crescent.
The family were unhurt in the incident, but police are treating the attack as a hate crime and are appealing for witnesses.
Chief Inspector Andrew Sinclair, local area commander for Clackmannanshire, said: “This was a horrendous attack on a Syrian family, which could have had tragic consequences.
“We take all reports of hate crime very seriously and will be conducting a thorough investigation to ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.
“Our officers are carrying out inquiries and will be conducting high visibility patrols in the local area over the coming days.
“I would ask anyone who witnessed this incident, or has any other information that can assist our investigation, to get in touch with us soon as possible.
“Everyone has the right to feel safe in their community. There is no place for prejudice in modern society and Police Scotland is committed to tackling these offences wherever and whenever they occur.”
Anyone who may have witnesses the incident, or has information regarding the attack, is urged to contact police on 101 and quoting reference number 0084.
Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
