Motorists are still being urged to drive with caution despite an amber ‘be prepared’ weather warning being lifted at 5am.
Most drivers appeared to heed warnings not to drive, which were issued for the south of Scotland, Midlothian and Borders area with the weather, on the whole, not being as bad as expected on Wednesday night.
However, there were a number of jackknifed lorries on the A75 Euroroute in the Dumfries and Gatehouse of Fleet area on Wednesday evening.
Police Scotland has issued a ‘stage three’ warning which means there is a high risk of disruption to traffic in some areas.
A yellow ‘be aware’ weather warning remains in place for many parts of Scotland.
