Two men have died following a fall from a Munro in the Highlands. The pair were climbing Ben Hope in Sutherland when the alarm was raised at 3.45pm on Tuesday. The walkers were said to be “in difficulty”. A major rescue operation was mounted by the police, the Assynt Mountain Rescue Team and the UK Coastguard. The men’s bodies were found on the western side of Ben Hope at about 2am on Wednesday by a helicopter crew. Police say efforts to recover their bodies remain on-going. Inspector Kevin Macleod said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of both of these men at this tragic time. “I would also like to pass on our gratitude to the volunteers of Assynt Mountain Rescue Team for their efforts in extremely challenging conditions.”
