A celebration of the anniversary of J M Barrie's birth took place on Thursday 9 May at his birthplace in Kirriemuir. Cameron Hinde (Visitor Services Manager, Angus region) celebrates on the 159th anniversary of the novelists birth alongside a driftwood sculpture of 'Tick Tock' crocodile from Peter Pan. The sculpture was made by James Doran Webb.
A plastic fishing boat created by environmental charity Hubbub and made of 99% recycled plastic is launched on the canal at the Falkirk Wheel. The boat will now travel around Scotland to raise awareness of pollution in the country's waters.

Care home residents in Dundee enjoyed a mini sports day yesterday as part of an annual event to encourage physical activity in older people. Going for Gold, held in Menzieshill Community Centre, saw residents don fancy dress with a DC Thomson comic characters theme and take part in a range of sports activities. Former crew member Keith Thomas inside the engine room of the Royal Yacht Britannia to help with the ships maintenance in Edinburgh. The Royal Yacht Britannia is the former royal yacht of Queen Elizabeth II and was in service from 1954 until 1997 and has been named one of Scotland's best visitor attractions. For four days in May, over 50 former Royal Yachtsmen, return to their duties on Britannia for Yotties Week. The Royal Yachtsmen, or Yotties as they are affectionately known, will return home and don their bright white overalls to work alongside Britannia's own maintenance team for 4 days of painting, scrubbing, sanding and polishing.
A pony is the latest weapon being deployed in the war against litter at an Angus beauty spot. Glenn the pony, has proved popular with litter picking volunteers at St Vigeans in Arbroath and is being used as a tool to educate local children.
The Flying Scotsman steam train leaves from Perth train station as a lone piper plays. Rail enthusiasts across Tayside and Fife have gathered to catch a glimpse of the locomotive as it passes through on its way to Inverness. The steam engine arrived in Edinburgh on Thursday having made the trip up from York.
