The start of the cricket season for the UK’s only pub cricket team that has its official pitch on the beach began this week. The Ship Inn Cricket Club holds all its fixtures on Elie’s beach in the East Neuk and welcomed the Borderers to the venue. The players descend straight on to their unique cricket pitch using steps from the pub’s beer garden. A cricket festival weekend will be held on July 26-28.

Beautiful bluebells in the blazing sunshine in Aberfeldy this week.
A 30-tonne granite statue carved in memory of the Airedale terriers which died in the First World War has been unveiled at East Haven, near Carnoustie. Fans of the breed gathered in the Angus village the day after the piece had been lifted into place. Charity East Haven Together raised £50,000 to fund the statue, carved by local artist Bruce Walker. Airedale owner Lori Loftus, from Carnoustie, brought her dog Stanley to the ceremony.

Broadway star Donna McKechnie has unveiled a new scholarship to support the next generation of musical theatre talent in Scotland. The Tony Award winner has given her name to the new scholarship fund at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
