Lewis Capaldi’s Star Wars-themed retaliation in his spat with Noel Gallagher has earned the approval of the actor behind a legendary character from the film series.
Pop star Capaldi took to the TRNSMT main stage on Sunday wearing a Chewbacca mask after the former Oasis man compared him to the wookie in an interview. Gallagher also described Scotland as a “third world country”.
In response the Someone You Loved singer changed his name to Chewis Capaldi on Twitter.
The Bathgate singer then walked out for his TRNSMT set to GBX hit Bits N Pieces while wearing a Chewbacca mask – and dedicating Oasis hit Don’t Look Back In Anger to Gallagher, who he referred to as “dad”.
And on Tuesday actor Joonas Suotamo, who took on the role of Chewbacca from Peter Mayhew for both Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story, has praised the stunt.
The Finnish actor, and former basketball player, took to Twitter to say: “I admire a man in a Chewbacca mask. Well done @LewisCapaldi. Rawrrggh.”
Suotamo shared the role of Chewbacca with the late Mayhew on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Following the Sunday show, the Chewbacca mask was put up for auction by DF Concerts for the charity Tiny Changes.
The charity was set up in May in memory of the late Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison.
