At least 19 people have been killed and many others wounded after a knifeman went on the rampage in Japan, according to reports.
The attack happened in the city of Sagamihara, on the western border of Tokyo. According to local sources, the attacker broken into a facility for disabled people where he used to work.
Armed police stormed the building after receiving a call from staff in Kanagawa Prefecture just after 2.30am local time.
It is understood the man was earlier seen armed with a knife in the grounds of the nearby Tsukui Yamayuri Garden.
As many as 45 were reported wounded last night. At least four were said to be in a critical condition.
Japanese police said they had arrested a 20-year-old man, who was a former staff member and that he has confessed to the stabbings. The suspect reportedly escaped the facility but then turned himself in.
