Two more bodies have been pulled out of the sea at Camber Sands, hours after three men drowned on the hottest day of the year.
The first three men died at the scene despite rescue efforts from air ambulance and coastguard teams. Rescue crews are still searching for a sixth person.
Emergency teams were called to reports of them needing urgent medical aid at Camber Sands, near Rye, East Sussex, at about 2.15pm, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “The three men, who have not yet been identified, sadly died despite efforts to save them.”
Beachgoers were being urged to stay out of the sea as medics helped the men.
The Camber Sands deaths came as police said that a two-year-old girl who was swept into the sea at Fistral beach in Newquay with her father had also died in hospital.
