Police have arrested a 23-year-old man following last night’s terror attack at Manchester Arena.
Twenty-two people were killed and a further 59 injured in the apparent suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande gig at the venue.
Police were called to the venue following reports of an explosion at 10.33pm, shortly after the US singer had finished her performance.
It comes as Islamic extremist group ISIS claimed responsibility for the bombings.
Amaq, a news agency tied to the terror group, has made the claim.
The identity of the person behind the attack has not yet been revealed.
The force said the arrest of the 23-year-old was made in south Manchester.
A statement issued by Greater Manchester Police said: “With regards to last night’s incident at the Manchester arena, we can confirm we have arrested a 23-year-old man in South Manchester.”
The arrest was announced moments after Prime Minister Theresa May denounced the “appalling sickening cowardice” of the lone suicide bomber who detonated a homemade device in the foyer of the Manchester Arena just as thousands of young people were leaving a concert by US pop star Ariana Grande.
Declaring that police and security services would be given whatever resources were needed to track down any accomplices of the attacker, Mrs May vowed: “The terrorists will never win and our values, our country and our way of life will always prevail.”
