Almost 40,000 packets of frozen vegetables have been recalled from Aldi stores after a customer claimed to find parts of a rodent in one.
The budget supermarket chain has withdrawn 38,000 bags of a product from its UK stores as it investigates the discovery of a rat in the product.
However no Scottish stores have been affected, Aldi has confirmed.
It comes after Pat Batemen claimed to have discovered part of a rodent in a bag of mixed vegetables produced by Belgian supplier Agrifreez while cooking up lunched for her two-year-old granddaughter, reports The Sun.
The 60-year-old, from Cornwall, complained to Aldi and was offered compensation for the discovery.
Nearly 40,000 packets were distributed by the supplier just before Christmas, however the product did not make it into Scotland.
The supermarket is said to have received two complaints from Environmental Health and another from a customer regarding the same batch.
An Aldi spokesperson said: “Following Mrs Bateman’s complaint, we removed this product from sale to prevent any further issues.
“We have suspended all orders from this production site whilst we investigate this matter.”
