Football clubs across the world have been sending messages of support to Sir Alex Ferguson following a brain haemorrhage.
Manchester United, the club the Scot led to 38 trophies during his 26 years as boss, said the legendary manager underwent emergency surgery on Saturday.
The operation on the 76-year-old is said to have gone well, and he will now enter a period of intensive care.
Man United tweeted: “Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone surgery today for a brain haemorrhage.
“The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to aid his recovery. His family request privacy in this matter.
“Everyone at Manchester United sends our very best wishes.”

Aberdeen FC – the side Sir Alex managed from 1978 to 1986, famously leading them to a European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1983 – also sent their support.
The Dons tweeted: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone connected with Aberdeen Football Club are with our former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson and his family following tonight’s news.”
Sir Alex’s playing career included spells at both St Johnstone and Dunfermline Athletic.
