Firefighters were called out to tackle a large moorland blaze that broke out in West Yorkshire as Britain enjoyed its third day of unseasonable sunshine.
The fire, which West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have described as “one of the biggest moorland fires we’ve ever had to deal with” started at around 7.30pm on Tuesday evening near Saddleworth Moor.
With the blaze covering 1.5 square kilometres, up to 40 firefighters remained at the scene on Wednesday morning. Reports suggest the fire was put out shortly after 8am.
