Hollywood icon Doris Day has died at the age of 97.
One of the biggest female stars in film history, she is best known for her roles in Calamity Jane, Alfred Hitchcock’s The Man Who Knew Too Much and Pillow Talk.
Day was also an incredibly successful singer, releasing 29 studio albums.
She was nominated for the best actress Oscar for her performance in Pillow Talk, with her songs Secret Love and Que Sera Sera winning best original song Academy Awards in the 1950s.
Her career accolades included the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, which she won in 2009; six Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award; and the Los Angeles Film Critics’ Association Awards lifetime achievement award.
Day also has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for her film work and the other for her musical career.
She retired in her fifties to focus on animal rights activism and in 2004 was handed the the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush for her efforts.
