Each week, we will take you on a trip back in time with a selection of photographs picked from DC Thomson’s vast archives. This week, the focus is on Forfar.
Our first image shows a car stranded in the town’s flooded West High Street during a major downpour. Did the unfortunate driver really think he or she could make it through? The photo was taken on June 8 1972.
The second photo dates from September 5 1974 and was taken at Station Park. It shows former Dundee United FC boss Jerry Kerr shortly after he had taken on the role of Forfar Athletic manager. He’s hanging out with some players ahead of their match against Raith Rovers in this picture.
In the third picture, from April 11 1995, a group of Arbirlot Brownies are seen enjoying themselves at Ladenford near Forfar. On the right is Brownie Guide Elizabeth Arthur who appears to be giving some kind of flower demonstration.
The fourth photo shows a general view of the Forfar Flower Show in the Reid Hall on August 28 1976.
The final photo, taken on September 12 1971, is of the Royal Yachting Association’s Little Ship team championship at Forfar Loch. Teams from Forfar, Largs, East Lothian and Clyde took part in the event.
