Each week, we will take you on a trip back in time with a selection of photographs picked from DC Thomson’s vast archives. This week, the focus is on Alyth.
Our first image shows a worker operating a mechanical berry picker at Peter Marshall and Co’s farm at Muirton. The photo was taken in July 1990.
The second photos dates from September 19787 and shows Alyth United Junior FC players in a line-up. They really are rocking the 70s hairdos!
In the third picture, from October 1954, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are pictured exiting a train at Alyth Station.
The fourth picture shows a lovely view of the town and surrounding landscape, with its rolling fields and hills. It was taken in May 1953.
The fifth picture shows the supreme champion of the cattle section of Alyth Show in 1988. The accolade went to Mr JH Dewhurst from Woodened, Madderty, Crieff. Herdsman Mr Sandy Law is pictured with the impressive bull. The photo was taken on June 23 1988.
The final photo shows the bridge over the Alyth Burn. The picture is undated but it’s likely it was taken in the early 1900s.
