Each week, we will take you on a trip back in time with a selection of photographs picked from DC Thomson’s vast archives. This week, the focus is on Pitlochry.
Our first image is of Pitlochry Festival Theatre on the day it opened on May 19 1951. As you can see, the audience and players were only separated from the elements by a canvas covering.
In the second picture, from August 22 1950, a mother and her two young children stroll along the banks of the River Tummel beside Pitlochry Dam.
The third picture, from June 1953, shows the Atholl Palace Hotel. It had just been bought that year by Clydesdale Commonwealth Hotels, the group who owned the Royal Clydesdale Hotel in Dundee’s Union Street.
Boatmen can be seen clearing debris hurled into Faskally Loch at Pitlochry Dam during storms in the fourth image. It was taken on August 14 1958.
In the fifth photo, from December 5 1975, children can be seen at the new Pitlochry High School with headmaster Robert Gray.
A mass group of pipers enjoy entertaining the crowds at Pitlochry Highland Games in the sixth picture. It was taken in September 1973.
The final image, from June 2 1976, shows a scene from the town’s busy Atholl Road.
