Each week, we will take you on a trip back in time with a selection of photographs picked from DC Thomson’s vast archives. This week, the focus is on Birkhill.
Our first image shows Councillor Jenny Allen passing a checkpoint on snowy Coupar Angus Road while taking part in a 13 mile mini-marathon around the Camperdown Park area. The picture was taken on January 30 1983.
The second picture, from February 13 1983, shows members of Birkhill Amateur Boxing Club. With the boys are, from left, Alec McInnes, secretary Joe Duffy and John Scott.
In the third picture, scenic artist Jordi brightens up an outdoor section of Jungle Kids, a children’s play area in the Angus village. It was taken on February 26 1998.
The fourth picture, from July 2 1961, shows the main street running through the Angus village. The Birkhill Inn can be seen on the right.
It’s a glorious spring day, with dog walkers, cyclists and drivers out and about in force in the fifth photo, from April 1977. The picture was taken on the Coupar Angus Road between Lochee and Birkhill.
The final image, from June 8 1994, shows a group of local school children posing with a horse-drawn carriage outside the Birkhill Inn. They were celebrating the re-opening of the facility after an extensive refurbishment.
