Each week, we will take you on a trip back in time with a selection of photographs picked from DC Thomson’s vast archives. This week, the focus is on Scone Palace.
Our first image shows a group of tourists admiring the stunning array of daffodils in the palace grounds. The photo was taken on April 27 1987.
The second photo, from October 28 1987, shows a crowd watching horses and jockeys in a paddock before the start of the fourth race at Perth Hunt meeting at Scone Palace Park.
In the third picture, Dundee polo players tackle a team from Cowdray in a tournament held at the palace’s polo ground. It was taken on March 9 1975.
The fourth picture, from September 14 1980, shows Prince Charles with his horse at a polo match at the palace.
The fifth picture shows a scene from the Game Conservancy Scottish Fair on July 2 1994. Ian “Smokie” Gray from Forfar is featured with his dog Jess and some ducks.
In the sixth picture, from April 10 1998, the impressive Sword of State is being admired by visitors.
The 100,000th visitor arrived at the palace on October 9 1989, as the seventh image shows. Nick Pendle and his wife Sue were surprised to be greeted with gifts, free entry and lunch for two. The couple were on holiday from their home in Swindon, Wiltshire. The picture shows Mr and Mrs Pendle (centre), with commander and administrator Andrew R Robinson presenting them with gifts, watched by Jane Neale, assistant administrator.
The final image, from April 4 1983, shows the palace, home of the Earl and Countess of Mansfield, being reopened to the public after a period of closure.
