September 13 1916: Complaint as Scottish regiments absent from ground-breaking Somme film

In 1916 cinema-goers in Britain were given a chance to see what life was really like on the front lines.

Released in August, The Battle of the Somme was a semi-documentary film made by official war cinematographers Geoffrey Malins and John McDowell.

One Courier reader was disgruntled over repeated inferences that the Scots were absent from the conflict, and wrote to the editor to say so.
