A quick-thinking teenager managed to save her family home after a blaze broke out.
That 16-year-old was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, who would go on to become the Queen Mother.
Glamis Castle was being used as a convalescent home for injured soldiers when one of the patents, a Sergeant Cowie, noticed smoke on September 16.
Elizabeth rang the nearest fire brigade at Forfar, as well as the one in Dundee, before organising a team of soldiers with buckets to try and tackle the fire.
She also helped save the family rooms by sweeping water down from the steps of the castle tower and organised a team of villagers to stand in line and pass valuables outside.
