A total of 2,308 people across Tayside and Fife have been diagnosed with Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

The latest figures from the Scottish Government show the country’s total number of positive cases has risen to 13,486 – an increase of 181 since Saturday’s update.

Scotland’s death toll has also risen to 1,857 after 10 further people died after testing positive for the virus.

A total of 72,683 people in Scotland have been tested through NHS labs to date. Of these, 59,197 were confirmed negative.

Across Tayside, there have been 1,497 confirmed cases of coronavirus and there are currently 41 people receiving hospital treatment.

In Fife, there has been 811 people diagnosed with the virus and there are 82 people who have tested positive in hospital.

Scotland’s national clinical director Jason Leitch has urged “maximum caution” on the next steps in the coronavirus lockdown.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast on Sunday, Mr Leitch reiterated the instructions of the Scottish Government for people to stay at home.

The comments come as reports emerged of a shift in messaging by the UK Government, which has changed part of its slogan from “stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives” to “stay alert, control the virus, save lives”.
