A former senior Tayside officer has filed a complaint against the boss of a federation representing rank-and-file police over a Twitter outburst.
Angela Wilson, who is now chairman of the Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre in Dundee, was described by Calum Steele as an “imbecile” and “buffoon” in social media posts.
Mr Steele, who is the general secretary of the Scottish Police Federation, is also a serving police officer and bound by the force’s conduct regulations.
In one of the posts, he said Ms Wilson is “one of the most incompetent imbeciles ever to have held rank in the police service”.
The federation leader’s posts were in response to Ms Wilson saying the interim Chief Constable Iain Livingstone should not take up the role permanently due to a previous sex attack allegation.
Mr Livingstone was cleared of assaulting a woman at a police training college in 2000.
Defending the country’s most senior officer, Mr Steele suggested there is a conspiracy to smear him, involving Ms Wilson and others.
The complaint by Ms Wilson has been lodged with Police Scotland and the Scottish Police Federation, according to the Sunday Mail.
