A Fife MP is to be confirmed as Scottish Labour’s deputy leader after standing for the position unopposed.
Lesley Laird, who represents Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath, has been performing the role on an interim basis since Alex Rowley MSP stepped down in December.
The coronation is likely to happen this week at a meeting of Labour MPs, MSPs and councillors.
Ms Laird said: “I’m ready to get on with the job of holding the Tory and SNP governments to account and outlining a positive vision of what a Labour government can do in Scotland and across the UK.”
The former deputy leader of Fife Council remains a councillor despite winning the Westminster last June.
Ms Laird, who is also shadow Scottish Secretary, has faced calls to quit her seat on the council after it emerged she missed several meetings.
Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard said: “Lesley will be a great voice for our members and our movement, to make the case for the economic and social transformation Scotland so desperately needs.”
