An SNP MP accused the Prime Minister of laying a trap for Jeremy Corbyn to dilute her responsibility for Brexit.
Dundee East’s Stewart Hosie claimed to have exposed Theresa May’s hidden strategy to set up the Labour leader during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday.
The SNP’s former deputy leader said: “After two years of Brexit deadlock, intransigence and a seven-hour cabinet meeting, the best the prime minister can do is invite the leader of the British Labour party to become the co-owner of her Brexit failure.
“So let me ask her had she been the leader of the opposition and invited into a trap like this, would she have been foolish enough to accept?”
Mrs May said there is a responsibility across the parliament to “deliver Brexit in an orderly way”.
“Members of the public expect us to reach out across this House to find a way through this,” the Conservative leader replied.
“They want a solution, the country needs a solution, the country deserves a solution and that’s what I’m working to find.”
In a speech from Downing Street on Tuesday night, Mrs May said she would seek the help of Mr Corbyn to ensure the UK leaves the EU with a deal, which was widely seen as a move towards a softer Brexit.
