VIDEO: Watch as Boris Johnson is booed by crowd on his arrival at Bute House in Edinburgh

Boris Johnson was booed on his arrival in the Scots capital on Monday.

The UK’s new Prime Minister was in Edinburgh to visit Nicola Sturgeon at Bute House during his visit north of the border.

He was met with a large crowd, many of whom booed him, as he arrived at the First Minister’s official residence in Charlotte Square on Monday afternoon.

Mr Johnson is said to have left Bute House via a back entrance following his unwelcome reception by protesters in the Scottish capital.

While in Scotland Mr Johnson also visited Faslane naval base and met with Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson.

During the Scottish trip Mr Johnson claimed the 2014 Scottish Independence referendum had been a “once in a generation event” and said public faith in politics would be further damaged if a second such ballot was to take place.

He added he would be “doing everything I can to assist” Ms Davidson in becoming Scotland’s next first minister in the 2021 Holyrood election.

It comes despite Ms Davidson saying she will not support the UK leaving the European Union without a deal in place – with the issue marking a split between the Tory leadership north and south of the border.
