A child at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool has tested positive for coronavirus, the BBC reports.
The case was said to be one of two new cases confirmed by the city council on Thursday.
The age or sex of the child was not revealed.
It comes as the number of people infected with covid-19 globally neared 100,000 on Friday.
Five new countries and territories reported cases for the first time in the past 24 hours – Bosnia and Herzegovina, Gibraltar, Hungary, Slovenia, and Palestine.
At the time of reporting, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK was 115. Six of them were in Scotland.
Across the UK 18,083 people have been tested for the disease, with 17,968 confirmed negative.
