An open letter from rank-and-file Labour members and councillors says Mr Corbyn wants to “captain a ship for which he has no crew”. It was released by supporters of Labour’s only MP in Scotland Ian Murray, who resigned as shadow Scottish secretary this week. The letter said Labour needs to have strong leadership to stop the damage caused by the Tories who have “taken this country to the brink”. “It is clear that Jeremy Corbyn cannot provide that leadership,” he added. “We need a credible, competent opposition, but Jeremy Corbyn is currently unable to fill all positions on his front bench. “Jeremy Corbyn wants to captain a ship for which he has no crew. For the good of the party and, more importantly, the country, he must step aside.” Mr Corbyn says he will not let down the 250,000 members who voted him in as leader.
