Nicola Sturgeon’s broadside at “disgusting” comments from senior UK Conservatives on immigration has sparked a Twitter backlash.
The SNP leader said Theresa May should be “thoroughly ashamed of the xenophobic rhetoric” that has come out of this week’s party conference.

Ms Sturgeon described a suggestion by the Home Secretary to demand that firms list the proportion of foreign workers on their books as “absolutely disgusting”.
Social media users reacted by tweeting under the hashtag #wearescotland.
Paul Kavanagh said: “We’re born Scots, made Scots, Scots by accident, Scots by design, Scots by birth, Scots by choice, we are the world #WeAreScotland”

Sarah Beattie-Smith posted: “In the face of racism, xenophobia & the politics of fear, I’m proud to be part of such a welcoming nation #WeAreScotland
But some people treated it sarcastically.
Euan McColm, a newspaper columnist, tweeted: “i believe in scottish exceptionalism and nauseating virtue signalling. #wearescotland”
