Labour’s Tristram Hunt is to stand down as an MP and become director of the V&A museum in London, according to reports.
The former shadow education secretary is expected to replace Martin Roth, who was a key figure in overseeing the Dundee project.
Mr Roth cited fears over Brexit when he announced his departure last year, but the director of V&A Dundee Philip Long said the development in the City of Discovery would “continue as planned”.
Mr Hunt’s decision to step down will trigger a by-election in his marginal Stoke constituency.
The centrist MP has been critical of the direction Jeremy Corbyn has been taking the Labour party.
