A second day of indicative votes to find a way forward on Brexit ended in failure on Monday.
Once again MPs could not agree on any alternatives on the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union (EU), rejecting options including staying in the single market, a customs union, a confirmatory public vote and a route to cancelling Brexit altogether.
The closest to winning a majority of the four options was Ken Clarke’s customs union plan, which was defeated by 273 to 276.
SNP MPs abstained on that because they could not support a plan that deprives Scotland of the benefits of the single market.
