Ian Harkes is set to sign a new two-year contract with Dundee United.
The American midfielder’s current deal expires in January but the Tangerines have moved to secure his services until the summer of 2022.
Courier Sport understands personal terms have been agreed, with Harkes expected to put pen to paper when he returns – along with his Tangerines team-mates – from furlough.
United are currently planning for their return to training on June 11, ahead of a projected Premiership kick-off in August.
Harkes – son of former US national team captain and Sheffield Wednesday star, John Harkes – arrived at Tannadice in January 2019 after being released by MLS outfit D.C. United.
He has made 51 appearances for United, scoring three goals, and played a key role as the Tangerines secured the Championship title last season.
Harkes’ fiancée, Sarah Teegarden, is also a footballer and signed for Celtic in January after a stint at Lille in France.
