Angus high school youngster Luke Scharf is charging towards karting success in an action-packed racing season.
The aspiring star is in his final year of the highly-competitive Cadet class which has been the breeding ground for some of the biggest names in British motorsport, and is aiming to leave it on a high with more top titles tucked into his race suit.
Monifieth High School youngster Luke, who turns 13 next month, won the Crail-based East of Scotland Kart Club championship in both 2014 and 2015, and is well on course to make it a triple triumph by retaining his crown before stepping up to the sport’s Mini Max category.
The youngster is also competing in the Cadet championships at the West of Scotland Kart Club, based in Larkhall and Golspie’s North of Scotland Kart Club and has recently enjoyed a seven-race winning streak.
Luke’s ability has seen him picked up by top team Cannon Motorsport, with team boss Ryan Cannon providing direction and support for Luke and his dad, Lee Scharf who acts as the young racer’s mechanic.
Luke’s mum, Lisa said: “The MSA Scottish Kart Championship takes place at Crail racetrack this year and Luke will be competing there.
“Being that this is his home track we are hopeful that he may be lucky enough to finish his time as a Cadet by becoming Scottish champion.”
The family are also keen to attract sponsorship to help Luke on what they hope will be a successful rise up the racing ranks and have thanked local businesses who have already helped him on the road to stardom.
