A November tweet from ‘Andy The Dee’ asked for details when Dundee were heavily beaten away from home.
He said: “We’re having a discussion on bus coming back from the Dundee game (2-2 v Hibs at Easter Road).
“We’re discussing the time QOS beat Dundee 6-0 at Palmerston.
“I reckon it was back in the 70s, but somebody else is saying early 80s.
“Do you recall such a game?”
Dundee were beaten 6-0 at Palmerston on October 26, 1977, in the third round of the Scottish League Cup.
Dundee’s team in that midweek fixture was – Allan; McKinnon, Johnston; McDougall (Cord), McPhail, McGeachie; Strachan, Hutchinson, Pirie (Simpson), Sinclair, Redford.
It was not the only heavy away cup defeat the Dark Blues suffered that season.
A few months later, on February 6, 1978, they fell 7-1 at Parkhead against Celtic.
The Dark Blues lined up – Donaldson; Caldwell, Schaedler; Shirra, McPhail, Phillip; McDougall, Sinclair (Redford), Pirie, Williamson, Scott.
As an aside, striker Billy Pirie did not score in any of these cup matches, but still ended up with just under 40 goals that season.
This included three-hat-tricks, one four-goal haul and umpteen doubles.
Dundee finished third in the league and failed to win promotion.
Champions Morton and runners-up Hearts were the teams which stepped up to the Premier League.
